Are Ultrasonic Facial Cleansing Devices Really Effective?

The basic working mechanism of an ultrasonic facial cleansing device is to use high-frequency vibration/oscillation (sound waves or ultrasonic vibrations) to loosen and separate dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and makeup residue from the skin's surface and inside pores-rather than the mechanical friction or rubbing of traditional hand washing. Compared to "hand washing + facial cleanser + hand massage," this mechanical/sound-driven vibration is more stable and even, and can act on the skin's tiny folds, pores, and textured depressions in a shorter time, which is difficult to achieve with manual cleansing.

Therefore, in theory and in terms of user experience, ultrasonic facial cleansing devices do have their "reasonableness" and "potential value": they can help maintain clear pores, reduce the accumulation of oil and dirt, and prevent closed comedones/blackheads and acne problems caused by incomplete cleansing, which is especially beneficial for people who frequently wear makeup, experience air pollution, or have excessively oily skin.

Furthermore, because of its high vibration frequency and low amplitude, ultrasonic facial cleansing devices are often gentler than mechanical brushes. For certain skin types-such as oily, combination, or occasionally oily/excessively oily with significant dirt buildup-correct use can achieve excellent results in terms of cleansing, smoothing, and improved skin feel. However, for sensitive, dry, thin, or weakened skin, frequent or improper use may lead to irritation, dryness, over-cleansing, or even damage to the skin barrier.

Furthermore, the effectiveness of an ultrasonic facial cleansing device is closely related to the device itself, usage habits, and subsequent skincare. High-quality devices with appropriate vibration frequencies, stable output, and skin-safe design, when used with suitable cleansing products, at the correct frequency (many experts recommend 1–3 times per week, rather than daily), and with a complete cleansing and moisturizing routine, are more likely to produce good results.
